In Memorium: Tia Padorr Black

tia black  Swallowtails

………………………………………………………………………………………

Two swallowtails spiral
over cypress at the mountain’s crest.

Gypsies, one black, one gold,
trace an invisible path.

In mid-air they touch then vanish
as if changed

into the trance
of our own light breath.

Far below red light burns the field,
high summer’s intolerable heat,

while above the swallowtails reappear
fluid, glittering, weightless in the sky.

For a moment, they lift us
from this pool of earth,

and we emerge, our skin
shimmering, light as air.

    1. Jacqueline, I am sorry to have tell you that Tia passed away in 2019. She was a true and kind friend to me. In the last few years of her life she was living with her mother, and was seriously ill for 2 years. I’ll send this short message now, since I don’t know if it will go up on the public thread or be private. I learned of Tia’s death from her mother, and I have her mother’s phone number.
